With over 20 years of on-set experience, Stefanie recognizes the inherent value of learning from seasoned artists in the fashion and beauty industries. Mastering techniques on different skin tones, hair textures, features, and ages, while understanding the role aesthetics play, is a skill set that cannot be taught in a makeup course or a salon handbook. This remains a core value of Pre-Dame Beauty, and a leading factor in the artists she represents.
“I remember hearing the phrase, ‘learning in the wild.” That’s truly how I felt when I started my career as a freelance makeup artist. Thrown into the chaos, surrounded by so much talent, it was impossible not to soak up the high-level skill and artistry surrounding me. But to my surprise, I felt that my dream of becoming a freelance makeup artist wasn't enough.
I began working in tandem with the hairstylist, photographer, and clothing stylist, and quickly realized that I thrived in a collaborative environment. Yes, we were each hired for our specialization, but through mutual trust and teamwork, I saw how much more we could create together. When designing hair and makeup that exists solely for each project, the photos not only capture, they tell a whole story. I found this experience to be thrilling and truly fulfilling.
Working in the fashion and commercial world was, and still is, a highlight of my career. But after a while, I felt ready to move on. I saw a significant disconnect between the H+MU I had been designing and the H+MU style specific to brides, and I couldn’t understand why. It felt like such a natural transition to jump into the wedding industry and shake things up. This time, I knew I didn't want to do it alone; it wouldn’t be enough. I had to build a team of like-minded artists, and that team had to offer so much more than just hair and makeup for brides.”
After a slow start in 2020, Pre-Dame Beauty officially entered the vast and ever-growing world of weddings in 2021. With a light hand and a creative eye, the team quickly carved out a small corner of the industry, offering brides a fresh take on traditional bridal hair and makeup. Over the past five years, there has been a huge shift towards this newly dubbed “editorial style,” and Pre-Dame Beauty remains a team to watch.
